What I find interesting in this shot is the green "tinge" on some of these potatoes.

Could be that they are not quite ripe, but actually comes from the green plastic colander they're contained in. An example of indirect illumination perhaps.

Almost good enough, but not quite, ... for making a bottle of Chateau QEW. Maybe got about 8-10kg of grapes, but varied greatly in quality. Seeded grapes, not big or sweet enough for eating - so looking forward to next years crop. Taken a few to convert into raisins for the Christmas cake, rest have been composted.

...and introducing one of those subjects I know very little about bokeh. (Look at the region to the right of the bear and note the circular areas of light - I think this is "good" bokeh.)

Bokeh describes how out-of-focus points of light appear in the image, but I'm afraid that's about the limit of my knowledge in this area.

Here's a good reference to find out more, and its something I want to explore further in the future.

Sad isn't it. You dash out to buy a new camera, negotiate £50 off the advertised price and get a bargain, Canon EOS 400D for £600. Passing Jessops 2-3 weeks later what do you see? The Canon, ok with a Silver body, at the super price of £532.49 - odd price I know but what !! They've reduced it already !! When I bought mine their price was £620 !!

Oh, well c'est la vie, n'est-ce pas?

This picture was taken around about 13:30, overcast, original resolution at 3525x2518 before reducing it for posting, f/5.6 at 1/500 sec ISO 320, focal length 55mm. Texture on the wooden peg is great.

Starting off in one of the many "preset" modes - I keep being drawn to "Macro" I'm afraid. This was one of the first snaps, taken in the garden around midday on an overcast day. Detail is excellent, possibly because of the 10Mp available!

Because my new camera is a digital SLR, thought I'd remind myself what my original film SLR looked like. I still use this occasionally for black and white photography which I can develop and print myself (at least while I can still get hold of the necessary materials).

Here is my original camera which has served me well over the past 5 years. Generally a good functional camera, the Nikon Coolpix 885 started to suffer from "hot" pixel syndrome - tests showed in excess of 100 bad/hot pixels - so it was time for something new.

Notes: taken around 10 am on a windowsill with the sun in front, and slightly to the left of the camera.
